Our client needed to replace four 25 year old Southern Cross Linear machines during the winter of 2017. Our client already has 14 Valley PolySpan Linear Irrigators and has successfully reaped the benefits of the reliability of the Valley product and technology. Our client grows cotton in the Riverina and requires GPS control systems to manage their irrigation machines due to the massive size of their farm structure.

The retail cost of power has risen more than 60 per cent in the past 10 years and, combined with high water prices, irrigators are seeking greater efficiencies in order to keep their costs down.
TEAM Irrigation has redesigned these irrigation carts in recognition of the affordability battle growers are facing.
You will notice on these photos that the suction on these Valley Linear Carts has been mounted east- west. This design increases suction capabilities of the pump by removing the Z pipe inlet into the pump and one of the 90 degree bends in the suction.
By reducing suction length and weight we’ve been able to improve pump performance and flow characteristics through a 14” suction, to achieve flow rates of up to 305L/sec (26mgl/day) at less RPM, less kW and therefore needing less fuel to operate.
These standard 8120series Valley Rainger ditch fed carts have been strengthened and reinforced to accommodate the 6090HF475 9Ltr John Deere Diesel engines mounted with Pioneer SC100817 centrifugal pumps mounted east-west across the cart to deliver 305L/sec @ 1450rpm with fuel consumption of around 33L/hr.
We’ve redesigned the carts to have an operator’s platform at the rear of the cart and moved the control panels to the rear on the operators platform, reducing the risk of being run over by a moving cart when inspecting the control panels or pump. The operator’s platform provides easy access to all three control panels, which are mounted at operator height, and provides increased safety when riding on the platform from an OHS perspective.
The suction screens are a dual 12” self-cleaning Kleen Screen assembly with 4 polythene floats. A 14” check valve is fitted into the suction, allowing the grower to prime the Pioneer main pump with an 415V submersible electric priming pump that is mounted under the suctions’ screens. This makes priming a simple switch, rather than the old petrol operated Vacuum priming pumps.
All this has been built under a TEAM Irrigation signature curved Colorbond roof to protect the control panels, engine, fuel tank, pump and electrical components from direct sunlight so as to increase the lifespan of the components.
